Please use excel

1. (10 pts) Calculate the change in ∆G and ∆A for compressing 3.0 mol of an ideal gas at a constant temperature of 298 K from 1 to 50 bar for A) a reversible compression and B) against a constant final pressure of 50 bar.

2. (10 pts) Calculate the change in ∆G and ∆A for compressing 3.0 mol of Cu at a constant temperature of 298 K from 1 to 50 bar. (see Ex 22.6 for Cu data.)

3. (10 pts) M&S 22-12 (vdW expression for (∂U/∂V)T is in the notes, RK must be derived, not too hard if you remember how to do the derivative of 1/T1/2, if not, you need to refresh your memory. You are not required to plot the results, but you may if you want to.)

4. (10 pts) See the data below for the compressibility of ethane at 325 K. From this data, plot the appropriate form and evaluate the activity coefficient, f (phi) and the fugacity, at P=30 and P=80 MPa. I sent out the word file so you could cut and paste the data to Excel if you want to. You can choose either: count squares, use trapezoid rule, or fit and integrate (or some other correct way). If you do the last one, do it in parts. It is hard to fit the cusp properly with one equation. (Bragging points: What does the intercept of the curve at P=0 yield?)
