Taylor University Budapest Convention on Cybercrime Discussion

In 2001, the Budapest Convention devised a treaty to get nations to harmonize its cybercrime laws, support international cybercrime investigations, and increase international cybercrime awareness and involvement.  The United States, along with 64 other countries, joined forces and ratified their commitment to the treaty in 2006.  But now, the United Nations (UN) wants to take the Budapest Treaty to the next level and devise a new, updated version. Some critics of a new Treaty feel there are numerous reasons why this is a bad idea.

Provide a brief background on the current status of the Budapest Treaty.  Also, provide a brief background on what the UN Treaty proposes.  Why are the critics of the UN treaty against it? Based on the information you have found, should the US join the UN treaty?  Why or Why not? Explain your answer.
