SUNYOW Giving out Information without The Management Permission Response Discussion

Assignment:

In your response to your peers…

  • Explain whether you agree or disagree with the decisions that your peers have made, and provide a rationale.

PEER POST # 1

For this discussion, I chose scenario number one. I would most definitely have to be a whistle-blower in this situation. Yes, I understand that this person was a childhood friend, and perhaps I should just stay quiet about it and keep their friendship. However, if they were a good friend and decent human being they would not be engaging in this behavior, to begin with as they have been instructed to not release any insider information unless it has been deemed ok for release by upper management.

PEER POST # 2

The scenario I selected for this week’s discussion is the security analyst who works for a federal government agency. I would most certainly blow the whistle in this scenario because if no one did blow the whistle the unethical behavior would continue and could escalate. I would make the decision rather easily as it would be unethical not to blow the whistle. Following through on the decision would most likely be very difficult and I most likely send in an anonymous tip. The potential impact on not whistleblowing could be the actions escalate and end up causing a class action lawsuit. Another potential impact of whistleblowing could be your employer may find out you were the reason they were exposed. Anyone who knowingly allowed the unethical video surveillance to occur could be implicated.
