Sam Houston State University Economics Discussion

I am including this here, but the term project doesn’t really need to be connected to this unit in particular. But it is about time that I let you know what you will need to do so you can start thinking about it. [This unit introduces you to the most basic elements of strategic thinking. The unit briefly describes what strategic interactions are, where do we find them, and how game theory is used as the primary tool to study such situations. This unit is meant to be as a very brief introductory exposition to game theoretic thinking. There will be no assignment at the end of this unit and very few formal definitions and concepts being presented in the notes.]

For your project, you will have to find a real world situation that has something to do with economics and present it in a short paper or build a case study based on it. You have full discretion on which topic you want to work on. You can present something related to your business, your work, or something completely unrelated to what you do but that somehow caught your attention. The paper should not be more than 4-5 pages long, typed in a regular-sized font (12pt). It should have a title page containing a title and your name. It should also have a reference page at the end where you need to cite all your sources. I take plagiarism very seriously so please cite everything you use to prepare your paper. The main text should have a proper structure with the following subsections:

  • Introduction: a 1 to 1 and a half pages description of the real world situation you are discussing, containing the background facts or data relevant to your case
  • Economic Discussion: a 2 to 2 and a half pages narrative in which you connect the facts of your case to basic economic concepts covered in this course
  • Conclusions: a half a page summary and concluding comments

If you want to include tables, charts, or figures in your paper, they have to go in an Appendix at the end of the paper (after the reference section) and they should be properly referenced throughout the paper, as needed.
