Solving cybercrimes can be challenging for investigators. They must analyze tons of information, develop alternative scenarios to steer their investigation, and deal with dead ends, road bumps, or misinformation. Stressful! Fortunately, St. Paul reminds us, “Don’t worry; be happy!” Well, maybe not in exactly those words, but he does remind us to not be anxious.

As you go through the lessons this week, understanding the various criminological theories, take comfort in them, knowing that they are there as tools to help you navigate cybercrime. More importantly, take comfort in the most important tool, or partner, you can ever have: God!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Philippians 4:6

Criminal activities are always committed by people. These people, whether acting alone or in groups, are someone’s family members or friends, and they have souls…just like we do! We cannot ignore this critical fact. Although they have broken laws and should be held accountable for their actions, they are still human. As potential investigators, public servants, members of the armed forces, or law enforcement officers, we know that the result of our work can be the extreme punishment of another human being. At the same time, those affected by the crime demand justice. Talk about stress and anxiety!

Fortunately, as Christians, we have a God Who implores us not to be anxious. He does not stop there, though. He asks us to present our requests directly to Him. As we discussed last week, this promise allows us to co-labor with Him, without anxiety, knowing that the results of our work, even if it means that someone will spend the rest of their life in prison, were accomplished with the utmost integrity.
