NOTE: 300 Words
Thread must be at least 300 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. For each thread, you must support your assertions with at least 2 specific references to the course materials (citations to these sources may be informal, but you must include enough information for your classmates to find the original).
QUESTION:
Thread: C. S. Lewis and Francis Schaeffer were very effective apologists to their generation. Yet, the turn to postmodernity in the second half of the 20th century raised fresh apologetics challenges. What are these challenges, and do Lewis’s and Schaeffer’s respective approaches successfully respond to them?
NOTE: In responding to this thread, you will need to read a little about the topic of postmodernity and apologetics. You may find a number of resources on the internet on this issue, but you do not need to provide specific references. However, you do need to demonstrate some knowledge and understanding of the specific postmodern challenges to apologetics. In the lecture I make a point that C S Lewis had a hard time dealing with certain arguments formulated by more ‘postmodern’ philosophers. Why is that? What is specific about the postmodern problematic that might make older apologetic approaches less viable? Or, to the contrary, do these approaches continue to remain viable? You may engage with either Lewis, or Schaeffer, or both in this thread.
