Post A:
Reading about writing paragraphs in The Norton Sampler, I learned not only how to use transitions in my writing but also how to use parallel structure. Now that I am more knowledgeable about the use of parallel structure in my writing, I can use this method in my essay to help layout the main ideas for my story. Thus, with the help of using appropriate transitions in my sentences, it will help ensure my main topic is understandable to keep my readers engaged in my story and that I don’t stray off-topic when writing.

Amy Tan’s description of her being a writer in the introductory paragraph of her novel, “Mother Tongue,” was indulging enough to keep me interested in reading the rest of her story about her uses of language. “I am a writer. And by that definition, I am someone who has always loved language. I am fascinated by language in daily life. I spend a great deal of my time thinking about the power of language-the way it can evoke an emotion, a visual image, a complex idea, or a simple truth. Language is the tool of my trade. And I use them all-all the Englishes I grew up with.” In Tan’s introduction, she describes how powerful language is in her life, and gives a good description that I can personally agree with how writing a passage with exceptional detail can create visual images, or how it can evoke ones’ emotions. With that said, I would say that Tan uses descriptive detail to organize her paragraph in her story.
