What is MTurk?

  • For the purpose of our project, you will act as a requester.
  • You will post a HIT for people to transcribe audio content into written material.

 

  • As of May 2019, approximately 60% of workers were located in the United States and 40% are located elsewhere in the world; approximately 30% are in India.

 

Goal: Write the instruction for your MTurk project

 

Your instruction should clarify:

  • What is the task and how to do it.
  • What are potential problems during the task and how to handle them. (grammar, “umm”, time limit, file download, etc)
  • How and when will the workers be paid. (There should be two versions, one for each worker incentive you plan to test. )
  • Think carefully through the worker incentive in your written instruction. Do you actually have a way to assess the submitted work in the way you described?
  • You will actually need to pay for the workers’ work. So, don’t promise $100 if you don’t intend to pay.
