The importance of the application of servant leadership in practice as a public health professional or as a mentor

Servant leaders are great entities in public health because they are motivated and willing to help improve the lives of others without the expectation of benefits or rewards (Rowitz, 2014). These individuals appear in the forms of public health leaders, public health nurses/doctors, volunteers, and more. To be in the public health profession, you must have a heart that is willing to help and care about improving the wellbeing of others. Furthermore, servant leaders must have a mindset that can lead and help without conscious and unconscious bias and requires those with ethical and more characteristics. For example, a servant leader who is willing to help a community that is suffering mentally, physically, and socially will result in gaining trust in that community from the residents, which in turn will motivate the community to want to change their behavior to improve their health because they see others willing to do the hard work that will benefit others rather than themselves.

How motivating individual excellence, fulfillment, and the development of others can create power

Helping others to find their motivation is a good factor that will promote excellence, fulfillment, and development. For example, motiving others will allow them to want to strive for excellence by putting forth their best efforts and abilities by working hard to achieve or fulfill their goal. Lastly, motivation helps others develop empowerment and power because it makes them become aware of their current abilities and let them understand their strengths and weakness, which allows them to work harder to overcome those deficiencies, challenges, and barriers and continue to strive for excellence to be the best “them” they can be.
