Peer 1: The reason I selected this resouce is due to the fact that when my mom was in the hospital after her surgery for a brain tumor, she was often visited by a therapy dog to keep her in good spirits. One thing I didn’t know about therapy dogs is that they are available for funeral services. Per the website “although it can be an extremely somber occasion, a gentle Therapy Dog can be an asset during this time. They bring unconditional love and help to lighten a mournful atmosphere while bringing peace to individuals during an upsetting time” (Therapy Dogs International, 2008). The idea of having a therapy dog at a funeral is a great idea, as someone who battles with going to funerals of loved ones, I feel as though i’d feel much more comfortable to have a therapy dog available.
I believe that knowing this type of service is available outside of hospitals or someone registering their own personal pet as a service dog. Knowing that if anyone I knew was ever in the need of a service/therapy dog there is a company that can provide the services needed. Also knowing that the people and animals in theis program are simply good samaritans who want to help others with a pet that they love and who brings them their own joy. Sharing that unconditional love with complete strangers is a noble and honorable deed.

Peer 2: Coping with a Disaster or Traumatic Event: Emotional Health

I chose this site because I strongly feel that emotional health and mental health are very important topics, and they definitely deserve more attention. Considering the fact that we have spent the last year and a half living through a pandemic, I feel like it has taken any emotional or psychological toll on all of us in different ways. It’s normal to feel anxious, stressed, or sad and it is important accept those feelings. Per the article , “Taking care of your emotional health during an emergency will help you think clearly and react to the urgent needs to protect yourself and your family” (CDC, 2019). I want others to know that not only will paying attention to your emotional health provide you with a clear mind, but it also helps in the long run when dealing with future stressful situations. The greatest impact this information had on me was to be aware of common signs of distress and understanding which coping strategies work best when coping with a disaster.
