Health care is a broad field that impacts social systems, political systems, and environmental systems on a multi-faceted level. When there is a health issue at hand, such as the novel coronavirus, it impacts each system in unique ways. When prioritizing different components of these systems, first it is crucial to think of the implementation from an ethical perspective and keep the end goal in mind; serving the community and holding healthcare to a high standard. In an article by Frieden, 2014, he determines 6 key areas that are essential for the succession of addressing a health issue. Within the social systems sector, it is crucial to address how the issue impacts different socio-economic classes and the social determinants of health that are barriers to accessing care or necessary resources. For example, COVID-19 has impacted social systems differently on every level including access to vaccinations, and increased risk for underserved and minority populations. On the political systems level, Frieden, 2014, states that “political commitment to obtain resources and support evidence for action” is a vital way to address and implement health disparities or issues at hand. By gaining political favor regarding a health issue, this can increase funding for programs and stakeholder support. On the environmental level, it is important to understand the impacts of implementation of a resource and the systems that it effects within a community. For example, the use of tobacco in an environment is seen to have secondhand effects for solution and second-hand smoking. When using political favor for a tobacco campaign, environmental impacts would be a major proponent for political parties and provide support for implementation. By prioritizing all three of these factors within assessing a health issue, it increases the chance of implementation and change within any organization.
