B. Duffin, who is writing primarily for medical students, also describes the relationship between physician and patient as a contract:

Doctors can be doctors only when someone else agrees. A contract has always existed between physician and patient, although it was not always recorded in writing. This contract assumes that doctors expert knowledge will fill patient expectations. When these expectations are met, patients grant doctors the privileges of authority and professional control: autonomy over examination, licensing, and discipline. Privileges continue as longas the contract is filled to the satisfaction of both parties. . . . The history of the profession is a history of this contract and how it has been negotiated and changed.

Use material from at least four of the works we have studied this semester to assess whether the writers would agree that the relationship between physician and patient implies a contract. Do you see evidence that this contract has been negotiated and changed over time? Use specific details to argue your case.
