Clinical supervision is among the very extensively used practice for aiding clinicians in applying evidence-based practice (EBP) as well as maintaining quality care and is different from clinical case review or performance review (Giannopoulos, et al., 2021). Giannopoulos, et al (2021) conceptualize clinical supervision as a social influence procedure that happens over time, wherein the supervisor takes part with supervisees to guarantee quality clinical care. Clinical supervision is a foundation of clinician training as well as a core value of graduate training for mental health professionals (Tugendrajch, et al., 2021). Undeniably, all clinical trainees according to Giannopoulos, et al (2021), are mandatory to experience direct clinical supervision before graduation, in addition, to complete thousands of supervised hours of experience before licensure, with rigorous constraint for who can deliver this supervision and what supervision should involve.

My field instructor’s leadership style is transformational. Transformational leadership is a style of leader behavior in which the leader aids followers to surpass their early performance prospect by advocating changes to their values, norms, as well as personal interests (Choi, Kim, & Kang, 2017). Transformational leaders Nguyen, et al (2017) suggest, have vast referent power and influence, inspire loyalty to the organization, command respect, as well as hold the aptitude for significant vision. Such qualities of transformational leaders according to Nguyen, et al (2017), suggest that they can develop as well as uphold a control system such as a reward system that acknowledges as well as rewards managers. Transformational leaders Nguyen, et al (2017) opine, pay awareness to individual diversities in subordinates’ need for growth and development. They set examples and allocate duties on an individual basis, not only to satisfy the urgent need of subordinates but likewise to elevate subordinates’ needs as well as abilities to higher levels (Nguyen, et al, 2017).

Transformational leadership is one of the very widely researched styles of leadership and has been acknowledged as a successful style to deal with organizational tensions as well as aid in overall performance (Farahnak, et al, 2020). Transformational leadership according to Farahnak, et al (2020), is likewise related to enhanced staff approach, such as job satisfaction and organizational commitment, and reduced negative consequences, such as turnover intention and burnout. Theory on transformational leadership Farahnak, et al (2020) suggests, shows that this type of behavior is particularly significant during periods of organizational change such as the implementation of modern practice. numerous studies Farahnak, et al (2020) argues, have analytically examined the association between transformational leadership and implementation of a change, as well as found that transformational leadership was particularly significant in upholding a positive organizational climate in organizations enduring a large-scale system change.

  • An explanation of the role of supervision in your field education experience

I meet with the MSW field supervisor for at least one hour a week specifically for social work consultation. On the other hand, the task supervisors usually with specific, time-limited tasks or on a non-daily basis, directing day-to-day activities, teaching and guiding me in the assignments, and giving feedback on the performance. Supervision makes field education worthwhile and transforms the experience because the supervisor provides constructive, honest, and direct feedback as well as evaluating my self-awareness and functioning (Birkenmaier & Berg-Weger, 2018). It also addresses both strengths and areas in need of development or Improvement. Further, they emphasize the essential role of self-reflection in preventing boundary problems, worker burnout, and protecting oneself from client violence

  • A description of your field instructor’s leadership style and an explanation of whether the leadership style will promote your agency learning agreement during your field education experience

A field instructor’s leadership style is most closely aligned with the model of transformational leadership. A style in which the leader recognizes the necessary change, generates the vision for that change, motivates and guides others to act for that change, and implements the change as a team (Tafvelin, S., Hyvönen, U., & Westerberg, K. (2014. A leader’s guidance and trustworthiness are essential so interns develop confidence and are willing to challenge themselves. The transformational leader will inspire confidence in others by welcoming ideas, creative suggestions, and encouragement by demonstrating genuine enthusiasm for the vision.

It promotes the agency learning agreement during my field education experience because it aids the team in unity and inspires collaboratively engage in the process of goal attainment. Transformational leaders foster creative thinking and value input about new ways of doing things and encourage curiosity that challenges assumptions, to provide intellectual stimulation for their followers. Finally, transformational leaders provide individualized consideration when coaching and mentoring.

The role of supervision in my field education experience when I was working with my previous field supervisor was that she helped me to enhance my knowledge and assist with any difficulties I may encounter. The individual who is the supervisor has more knowledge, skills, and experience (Birkenmaier & Berg-Weger, 2018). The supervisor is a teacher and a guide to help the student deliver and demonstrate social work competencies to clients (Birkenmaier & Berg-Weger, 2018).

My previous field supervisor had demonstrated a participated leadership style. Participate leadership is a democratic leadership style. My previous supervisor acknowledges staff and client challenges and helps the staff overcome their challenges to help their clients overcome theirs. By doing, this allows staff members to have an equal say if they choose to speak up. As my previous supervisor displays a democratic leadership style, I believe it will promote the agency learning agreement during field education. However, I feel that my potential field supervisor will also display the same leadership style as I am able to work with him as well. My potential supervisor has already planned on getting me involved with group supervision, therapeutic group work, and sit-in on training.
