New York University Week 5 MPH Program Discussion
I feel that I have made a lot of progress when it comes to my grant proposal. I say this because I actually started writing it the first week of class. I did not do this just to get ahead. It was more, so I could focus on what needed to be done. I also did it because I would like to use this grant proposal in the future. I am also putting in a lot of time in research for the information that is needed for the first part of our proposal. I am just nervous because I am not sure if I am doing it correctly, but I think I am just overthinking everything. I think I have been too focused on the first part of the grant proposal when I need to start already thinking about the second part of the proposal. I am a bit stressed that I have not started the second part of the proposal yet, but I think this Hass to do more with me trying to make this proposal as successful as I can. I think the mph program has helped me learn how to incorporate certain things into the community, like what I am trying to do with this grant, for example. My practicum also is where I got the idea to write the grant for my specific population. My mentor is the one who told me it would be a good idea to write a proposal not only for the experience but to understand what the process is for a grant. She also thinks it would be a good idea to use this grant out in the community, which I agree with her. I think this is why I am getting in my head so much when it comes to this project. I just want the community that I am working with to get what they need and for them to be proud of what I have done for them.
One of the challenges that I am experiencing is overanalyzing everything that I am writing. I question every sentence when I have read it multiple times. It is also hard because there is “not a lot of information on hearing loss in older adults in the Hispanic community” (Wong, 2021). Aileen Wong, who is an audiologist with the University of Arizona, explored how she is doing a coalition to gather information on older adults in the Hispanic community with hearing loss because there is an insufficient amount of information on the specific population. I do agree with her. I say this because every time I looked for articles, I was having a hard time finding articles that had to do with this community specifically. This is why I changed the population that I talk about in my grant proposal to adults with hearing loss in general instead. Another challenge I think is that I am focusing too much on the background information and not enough on the rest of the grant proposal that I’m going to need to write. I need to start setting aside time for the other sections of this grant proposal in order for it to be a success.
