Biostatistics Case Study Presentation

The presentation should be supported by 6 team different PowerPoint slide sets. Follow the attached rubric.

The goal of the assignment is to guide students in practicing the process of appraising statistical evidence presented in a journal article. Critical appraisal of statistical evidence can be seen as a three-step process:

identifying the claim, listing the evidence provided to support the claim, and deciding whether the evidence credibly supports the claim. This approach to scientific inquiry is sometimes called Claim, Evidence, Reasoning(CER).

Before beginning the exercise, students should read the Robinson (2001), Dickman et al. (2012), and GeigerBrown et al. (2016) Students will use the CER approach to investigate claims made in the Dickman et al. (2012) and Geiger-Brown et al. (2016) articles.

  • Team 1 will investigate the Dickman et al. (2012) claim that participants’ goal-setting behaviors
  • improved over time.

  • Team 2 will investigate the Dickman et al. (2012) claim that participants’ exercise behaviors improved
  • as a result of attending monthly SMA visits.

  • Team 3 will investigate the Dickman et al. (2012) claim that participants’ improvement in exercise
  • behaviors was different across cultural groups.

  • Team 4 will investigate the Dickman et al. (2012) claim that participants’ improvement in exercise
  • behaviors was different across gender groups.

  • Team 5 will investigate the Geiger-Brown et al. (2016) claim that “when barriers to napping are
  • overcome, napping on the night shift is feasible and can reduce nurses’ workplace sleepiness and drowsy

    driving on the way home.”

  • Team 6 will investigate the Geiger-Brown et al. (2016) claim that “addressing nurse managers’
  • perceptions of and concerns about napping may be essential to successful implementation.”

Each PowerPoint will these below separately to a total of 6 PowerPoint

    1. Title/Author slide

    2. Claim slide – State the claim.

    3. Evidence slide(s) – List the statistical evidence provided in the article to support the claim. Use APA

    format.

    4. Reasoning slide – Explain why the evidence supports or fails to support the claim.

    5. Conclusion(s) – Draw conclusions and make recommendations if necessary
