Discussion Questions:
- Comment on what you thought of health journalist, Charles Duhigg’s approach and whether this might work for you with any habit change you need to do, or in terms of prevention or management of diseases.
- We often need to help patients change their lifestyle habits or learn new ones, like taking medication or doing a medical regimen. Does this give you any ideas for how to change your bad health habits?
- What tips did you learn about breaking bad habits?
- Do you think those would work for you if you wanted to break some of your own bad habits – we all have them?
- Was there anything that surprised you or intrigued you?
Note: Keep in mind that the focus of these strategies is on fairly simple and straightforward habits – useful for many health habits important in disease prevention.
Complex habits with a big emotional component or super strong reinforcement (like addictive substances) are not the main focus, though some of the principles may apply in some cases – however, those more complex types of habits tend to require custom tailoring and a more comprehensive approach. Each person is different.
