“One of the criteria for effective learning in nursing education is Clinical competency by students. Clinical competence is the ability to effectively integrate cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills when delivering nursing care” (Hakimzadeh, 2020). Medicine is continuously changing “as the elevating numbers of elder patients and critically ill patients, increasing healthcare expenses, increasing deficit in nursing staff and nurse educators and a shift in the age of the nursing workforce. To adapt to the rapidly varying and advancing healthcare settings; nurse educators must regularly assess and review education curricula, teaching-learning strategies and programs adopted to prepare new professional nurses” (Fawaz et al. 2018).

Additionally, there are a lot of variables that influence nursing education; learning and comprehension. For example, “demographic variables which may affect a student’s or graduate’s views about nursing as a profession are age, gender, marital status, education completed after high school, role models, faculty basic preparation, and faculty teaching experience” (Dube et al. 2018). Everyone is starting at different learning curves, being able to adapt and plan and successfully transfer over an educational curriculum is challenging. There is a gap in nurse education, we can see from students nationally obtaining a nursing degree however According to the NCSBN, the national first time NCLEX-RN pass rate for the US educated nurses in 2020 was 86.5%” (Admin, 2021). Lastly, being a healthcare provider, we need to sell the product we promote which is health. As nurses, it’s easier to teach and educate patients to be healthy if providers are “modeling healthy lifestyle behavior and attitude” (Blais, 2016). It’s essential healthcare providers do eat healthily, have thirty minutes of active activities daily, have good coping skills, and maintain healthy mental health. Patients want to see their educators practicing what they preach.

Nursing education is a tough road to a successful career. But as they say if it was easy, everyone would do it. Depending on the degree level a person would like to obtain will depend on how many years they have to spend in school. Most nursing jobs require an associate’s degree that takes about 5 semesters to complete in an accelerated program. Many communities as well as state colleges offer nursing programs. All of these programs due require pre-requisites before applying, and all of these programs are super competitive to get into. Upon completion of the school work, one also has to complete certain number of hours of clinicals based on each state as well as preceptorship hours. After that the school can send the individual’s name to the boards in order for one to be able to sit and take the state boards to receive their state license.

Nurses’ education does not end there. Medical field is always involving, changing, and improving. That’s why in a recent article it states that, “Evidence-based practice teaching and learning has become an important function for nursing education. Research is used as an instrument in developing new teaching and learning strategies. Nurse educators are guided by evidence-based practice in teaching and on research reports. Evidence-based practice in learning is also based on research, meaning that students learn by using research findings.” (Mthiyane & Habedi, 2018) Nurses must continue to stay educated and informed in order to be good nurses in their field. Therefore, nurses in most states are required to take continuation of education classes. These hours are a fulfillment in order for nurses to renew their licenses. Each work place can also require their own CE hours for their policies and procedures. More importantly, educated nurses can provide a better patient care.

A big part of nursing education and how it should be proceeded comes from American Association of Colleges of Nursing. There statement states that, “As the voice of academic nursing, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) serves as a catalyst for excellence and innovation in nursing education, research, and practice. Since its inception in 1969, the organization has worked to improve the quality of nursing care by re-envisioning traditional nursing roles, strengthening nursing education programs, and striving to create a more highly educated nursing workforce. At a time when new models of health care are being introduced and the roles for registered nurses (RNs) are expanding, the need to reconsider how best to educate the nursing workforce of the future is critical.” (News & information 2019) When pursuing the nursing education, one should also make sure the program they are choosing is CCNE Accredited. The committee makes sure that the programs meet the necessary requirements for future nurses to participate in their boards and continue future education.

Nursing is a beautiful career that allows people to give back to the community. But it also gives people flexibility in their schedule as there are so many opportunities in nursing once the primary education is completed. Nursing also allows different people from all kinds of backgrounds, race, sex, and age to be discovered and pursuit. On article from couple years ago talks about the future of nursing stating that, “in order to run these flexible kinds of programs there must be adequate faculty preparation along with faculty practice to keep abreast of changes in the field of nursing. This will become the driving force to encourage new approaches to teaching and learning based on a philosophy consistent with modern demands and modern teaching pedagogies and flexible learning programs.” (Dias, 2013) These flexible programs ideas could not be more true today. Durning the epidemic a lot of faculties as well as students had to take a different approach to nursing since everything went online. Being open and flexible are big components in nursing.

Below is the question they responded to:

Discuss the variables that are involved in nursing education. Where do these variables come from and where can they be obtained?

Dont respond to the case study question. Only respond to the discussion posts.
