HCCS Professional Role Development Responses To Discussion

1.

  1. Recap on what you’ve learned from the last 5 modules to include: The 3 R’s of Professional Role Development, Resume Writing, and Resiliency.

Over the last few weeks since this course has started, I have acquired some knowledge that has helped in developing my professional role, reviewing, and updating my resume and incorporating resiliency in my role and experiences. First, the videos and LinkedIn Learning Module (LLM) materials increased my knowledge about self-awareness by providing great educational insight and strategies for developing self-awareness. These resourceful materials helped me understand that in building self-awareness, I need to understand and make efforts to identify my strong beliefs. Also, in the last few modules I learned that developing self-awareness is very important and to be an effective communicator, one need to make sure ones’ intensions are making the right impact.

Second, the LLM on Writing a Resume clearly states the reason certain information belongs to a particular column in the resume and why some information should be added or be left out. I learned a lot from this module because it helped me refined my resume writing skill. Resiliency is another concept I learned about in the past modules even though I have always been resilient. The use of the STAR Model is a good tool that helped me reflect on my past resilient experiences pertaining to the job position I will be applying to. And it helped organize my thoughts and experiences in a logical manner that will help deliver a great response during an interview while incorporating my resiliency in the story I tell using the STAR Model.

Overall, the modules and resources provided have taught me the 3 R’s of Professional Role Development, Resume Writing, and Resiliency which I will utilize throughout my professional career.

  1. Were you able and successful in collecting and storing 5 qualified references to use when applying for jobs and requesting recommendations?

Regarding references and recommendations, I was successful in collecting 3 qualified references which I will be requesting recommendations from when applying for jobs. Also, I have a few more people I am yet to get a response from, but I will be adding more references as I receive a definitive response.

2. 1. Recap on what you’ve learned from the last 5 modules to include: The 3 R’s of Professional Role Development, Resume Writing, and Resiliency.

I have learned an incredible amount of knowledge from the last 5 modules. At first, I was a little lost at the objective of this course and the assignments that went along with it. Of course I read the syllabus and announcements but still was not quite sure what I should be gaining as a nursing student from this class. When it clicked for me was the week the resume writing skills assignment took place. In watching all the modules about what makes a good resume is where I started to feel like I was really learning valuable information that I could benefit from. From that assignment on, I have benefitted every week it feels. The resume videos and podcasts were super helpful in writing my resume because it had been over 4 years since I had taken a resume workshop. While resume writing will always have key criteria, times have changed and some recruiters value some things in a resume and some are indifferent to those things. What was important for me to hone in on was any information that pertained to writing the resume specific to a job like nursing and elements that a hospital and the overall health care system value in a resume. What was also helpful and insightful was the replies to my peers discussions. The ability to read the intel from those who identify as the unknowing of what healthcare systems look for and or have never worked in healthcare before to peers who identified themselves of being on the inside of what healthcare institutions look for in resumes was helpful because I did not feel alone and I have a small insiders look while writing a resume for nursing!

2. Were you able and successful in collecting and storing 5 qualified references to use when applying for jobs and requesting recommendations?

It has taken quite some time. In gather resume references, the earlier the better. People have lives, jobs, and just unexpected events that happen- which is pretty much the description of life. I just had my OB orientation and right now is the time for nursing students to start getting an idea of when residencies open up and close because a lot of them are actually going to open up soon, which means references need to be acquired. It makes me very nervous if I am honest, so any tips my peers may have, I welcome!
