Assessment preparation and process (what you do before you write your assignment)

1. Reflect on the content of the module in terms of public health economics and how you might go about evaluating interventions to change behaviour or prevent disease that present a risk or a threat to health (mortality and morbidity) in terms of cost-effectiveness.

2. Select one area of primary prevention (interventions for healthy people), for example, diet, physical activity, sexual health, problematic drug or alcohol use, screening for disease, immunization or vaccination for disease and prevention of accidents. Search library databases online under the subject ‘health and social care’ and select a study (one paper) looking at the ‘cost-effectiveness’ of an intervention/s in your chosen area of prevention. The search terms ‘econ$’, ‘cost$’ ‘intervention’ and the area of primary prevention you have chosen ie. physical activity might be useful.

3. (Do not make a full quality appraisal as such), but write a short critical review of your paper based upon the most important areas in a critical appraisal checklist. You may want to use the one below CHEC by Evers et al.

4. You may want to use your answer to question 1 below to help you answer question 2. You may want to include issues of intervention context, the heterogeneity of people in communities, health improvement, health inequalities and capabilities among other factors in the second part of your answer
