NYU Wk 3 How the Leader in Your Practicum Organization Defines Evidence Response

Evaluation of I define “evidence” and its involvement in public health practice

Evidence is an indication of proof or fact. Evidence is usually in the form of information that an individual can see (video or picture), hear (audio clip), read (data), and experience (witness). My idea of evidence as it correlates to public health practice is the utilization of data to prove a fact, which can come in the form of clinical trials, experiments, observational studies, surveys, and more to generate evidence-based data to bring awareness of a public health issue or to improve the health and wellbeing of a population. For example, telling someone they are obese and the implication it can do their health is less effective and convincing than showing them evidence that they are obese and how it will affect their life. This evidence can be generated by showing them their weight or showing them data from clinical trials or research studies about people who weigh the same and have a similar lifestyle as them and show them that these individuals have multiple comorbidities (Lhachimi et al., 2016).

Evaluation of how the leader of my organization defines “evidence” and its involvement in public health practice

The leader of my organization defines evidence as it correlates with public health as tangible data that demonstrates facts (Morgan, 2021). For example, when the leader’s patients are showing diabetic symptoms and are in denial that they are diabetic. The leader orders a blood test known as A1c or glucose blood test, which shows a tangible number of the levels of sugar within that individual’s blood, which proves that the individuals are diabetic.
