UoN Covid 19 Pandemic Has Made Life Unbearable for International Students Reflection

Critically analyse personal values, experiences and assumptions that align with or diverge from the Australian Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics.

6. Demonstrate an awareness of ‘self’ as a practitioner and its potential impact on the professional helping relationship.

At the end of each of your tutorial classes, you will be given around 10 minutes to register a reflection log in relation to the role-plays you will take part. Your reflections should discuss the life span and life course approach to human development and demonstrate an awareness of your own values, ethics and prejudices and implications of these for social work practice with individuals and families. Consider the counselling skills, tools or techniques and their impact on your client. By the end of eight weeks, select just one of those reflections, the one you consider the most appropriate to work on, and focus on that particular role-play (“case”).

  1. State a brief introduction to the case, demonstrating the issues and challenges impacting the client and how these relate to the social work practice with individuals and families using the life span and life course approaches to human development. (10%)
  2. Explore your personal response to the case, and describe what you perceive to be the basis of your reactions (refer to your own life experiences, your own life stage, and how factors like your age, gender, ethnicity and so on impact your perception of the case). (30%)
  3. How does this situation challenge your values, morals, philosophy or personal ethics and how do these relate to the Australian Association of Social Workers code of ethics. (30%)
  4. Outline the elements you used and/or could have used in building a therapeutic alliance and their impact on your client. (20%)
  5. Essay presentation, conciseness, clarity of argument and literacy are expected to be at a competent level with a minimum of at least four academic references to be cited for this assignment. (10%)
