Introduction

Hello classmates and Professor, my name is Donita. I currently live in Tennessee, but I am from Greensboro, N.C. I have two daughters; one is getting ready to graduate college in December, and my youngest graduate high school next year. I will be graduating next year myself. I have so much to look for this year as well as next year. My husband has been in the military for 32 years, and he finally retired. Now he works with the soldier and currently going back to school for his Ph.D. We are a family who believes in education and instilling that to our girls.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I love to travel and learn about different cultures and their foods. I am very thankful for the military we traveled to other countries, and I found those countries very interesting and love, love the food in Korea, Germany. I love working with children and making the best expression on their little minds. I was encouraged to go back to school because I wanted to help children and their families. Working on an Army installation, I have witnessed how some children change due to deployed parents. I love talking to young 3-5 years old they say anything, sometimes too much, but I love giving young children the tools to learn and receive the help they need. Going back to school to further my education, I felt my hands were tied and could not do more for children with special needs and educate the families. So currently, I am studying Cognitive studies, which should help me work for Behavior Health so I can continue to work with military families.

I chose to go into human services because I felt the need to help military families and their children find resources for the client. I was setting up a plan that would allow the family and the child—put the plan in action for the client and put it in effect.

Hello, my name is Donna Garrett, and I am originally from Philadelphia, but I now live in the suburbs of New Jersey. I have been with my husband for 26 years and we just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary this past summer. We have 4 children; 2 sons and 2 daughters, ranging in age from 29-15 and we also have 2 grandchildren, ages 5 and 21 months. I work for a well-known insurance company and have been with them for 14 years and have been working from home for 13 of those years. I worked from home before it was the “norm”. I enjoy cooking, shopping, playing word games, cards, and watching HGTV, The Food Network, and ION. I am working hard to earn my degree in Healthcare Administration and will be finish in April of 2023.

I’m not quite certain that I will take a role in human services yet, but I have worked in healthcare for over 20 years, so I feel that this is where I can excel. I wish to explore more career options within the company that I currently work after I receive my degree.
