    ONE:
Mission statements are unique and specific to different organizations. These differences exist in their length, content, format, and specificity. According to many academicians and practitioners, an effective mission statement is that which is clearly written in a way that communicates nine characteristics or components. These components that make up a mission statement include customers who increase the enterprise functionalities by consuming the finished products, the products or services, markets where the organization competes, a technology that improves performance, concern for survival, growth, and profitability, which entails the firm’s commitment towards economic objectives.
Other components include philosophy, which specifies specific beliefs, core values, aspirations, and philosophical aspirations of the organization that increase its competence. Moreover, an organization’s mission statement entails self-concept as another component, which describes its major strengths and competitive advantages or weaknesses. Another component of the mission statement involves public image concern, which specifies the organization’s need to develop a competitive brand that focuses on improving the firm’s influence on the public.
It is important to include as many of these components as possible in a company’s mission statement to make it more effective, objective, and results-oriented. Mission statements are the major driving force organizations utilize to attain strategic goals and objectives. The mission statement particularly guides the organization towards its aim, goals, and objectives using the available human and non-human resources. They should entail a broad scope, be capable of generating different feasible strategic options. They must not be specific but should be able to bring together the interests of different stakeholders in the organization. Moreover, any reader reading a mission statement should feel motivated, with positive feelings emotions. Mission statements are dynamic, have direction, and portray the organization as successful with the impression that the organization is successful and bound to achieve more.

    TWO:
The purpose of the mission statement is to help explain who your company is and why they exist. The best mission statements are short and simple with a clear message that convey your goals and the purpose, they need to be unique to your business, create expectations, realistic, memorable, active, positive, adaptable, and they need to be targeted. The mission statement needs to have a little emotional appeal to catch the customers attention in order to build an emotional connection. (Sampson Quain, 2019)
The nine components of a mission statement include:

    1. Customers: who are they and how will they benefit from you?
    2. Products or services: What are they?
    3. Markets: Where are you operating at?
    4. Technology: What type are you using?
    5. Concern for survival: How committed are you to growth and financial considerations?
    6. Philosophy: What are your beliefs and values that guide you?
    7. Self-concept: what are your strengths and competitive advantage?
    8. Concern for public image: How socially responsible are you?
    9. Concern for employees: How important are your employees to you and how do you treat them?

I think that using all nine components and characteristics of the mission statement that are mentioned can help the stakeholders to understand their plan and goals, helps employees strive to meet the company’s goals, an active public relations tool, shows how they allocate resources, helps to guide strategic and daily decisions, and shows that the company can be proactive. (Ovidijus Jurevicius, 2013)
The SWOT analysis is a tool that businesses do to identify their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and their threats. I believe this is necessary and should be done periodically because we see changes daily and we need to make them work for us and not against us. The company needs to do a SWOT analysis on the internal and the external environments to get a good understanding of the big picture.
I had to research what VIRO was and what it does. VIRO (value, imitability, rarity, Organization) this is considered an internal analysis. This is a tool that organizations can use in strategic planning in order to make good effective decisions. The analysis helps one to identify and evaluate all the resources that are available to you within the company.
Value = value of the resources (we need to know what resources we have available and decide if it is a benefit or a threat. When, we see that the resource is a benefit we keep it. Should the resource be a threat then we eliminate the resource.)
R = rarity of resources (this area you hope to have a unique product that no one else can get or duplicate. By having a product no one else has available to them gives you the competitive advantage.)
I = Imitability of resources (this is a rare and difficult resource that others find to be too difficult to imitate. This gives you power over opportunities and limits the threats to your organization.)
O = the value of the organization (the final step in the analysis. You should have identified the value, rarity, and the imitability and by doing so you should be able to exploit your competitive advantage.)
VIRO framework puts the strategic plan into place and can go along with your vision statement and continues through your objectives, analysis, strategic choices and implementation. During the research we should find out what resources we have at our disposal like; what resources do we have and which ones that we need to evaluate, are the resources tangible, intangible or both, so we have the organizational capabilities to make this work for us successfully? (VComply Editorial, 2017)
TOWS is just SWOT spelled backwards and is considered as an analytical tool that examines the external, internal situations that face organizations, projects, products or service, team, group, or individuals. Just like SWOT analysis it identifies the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, and it also formulates specific strategies around the four elements. This tool examines the external analysis first meaning it focuses on the external environment where SWOT focuses on the internal environments. TOWS use the following four elements to minimize threats and maximize opportunities and they include:

    1. “Strengths – opportunities strategies: this involves use of strengths to maximize strengths.
    2. Weaknesses – opportunities strategies: involves minimizing weaknesses by taking advantage of opportunities.
    3. Strengths – threats strategy: using strength to minimize threats.
    4. Weaknesses – threat strategies: involve minimizing weaknesses and avoiding threats.” (Sampson Rachelle, 2018)

I believe that TOWS should be used when we are researching our competitors and then compare them against our own company in order to learn where we need to improve and where we are ahead of our competitors. By doing this it can keep us ahead of our competitor.

    THREE:
A business (government agency, other government agency or non-profit organization) may lose or gain the vast majority of their customer base before a product is ever introduced to the market. A businesses’ mission statement is the introductory hand shake between the business and the consumer. A mission statement is a brief description of the entity’s fundamental purpose. It answers the question, “Why does our business exist?” (Ward, S.W., 2020). The businesses mission statement should spell out the company’s purpose and intention. The mission statement also should endow the customers, employees, stakeholders and vendors with purpose and the company’s ethics.

The 9 Basic Components of a Mission Statement are as follows: (Ghafoor, H.G., 2017)
    1)    Customers – Who are the firm’s customers?
    2)    Products or services – What are the firm’s major products or services?
    3)    Markets – Geographically, where does the firm compete?
    4)    Technology – Is the firm technologically current?
    5)    Concern for Survival, Growth, and Profitability – Is the firm committed to growth and financial soundness?
    6)    Philosophy – What are the basic beliefs, values, aspirations, and ethical priorities of the firm?
    7)    Self-Concept – What is the firm’s distinctive competence or major competitive advantage?
    8)    Concern for Public Image – Is the firm responsive to social, community, and environmental concerns?
    9)    Concern for Employees – Are employees a valuable asset of the firm?

I believe it’s imperative to include as many of the 9 basic components of a mission statement into a mission statement for several reasons. One of the reasons is company transparency. With so many consumers becoming more conscious of the brands they support, brand transparency makes consumers feel comfortable and safe when supporting said company. Another reason to include as many of the 9 basic components of a mission statement is to identify and reach your target population. If you are on the board of a vegan company, you would not want to build your marketing campaign in a farmers town that is drowning in butcher shops.
