CSUN Guiding a Child as An Authoritative Parent Jean Piaget & Erikson Essay

Can you help me understand this Psychology question?

Is there such thing as the perfect parent? Probably not, but research suggests that an “Authoritative” style of parenting is ideal at all stages of a child’s life. How does the authoritative parent behave as their child progresses through early infancy and toddlerhood (age 0-2), early childhood (age 2-7), and middle childhood (7-11)?

For this essay, first identify major milestones in the life of a child at each of these three stages (infancy/toddlerhood, early childhood, middle childhood) according to the research of Piaget’s cognitive developmental theory and Erikson’s psychosocial stages of development. This should be based off of research discussed in the textbook and/or lecture. In other words, be sure to identify and describe the appropriate stages of each theory at each of these periods of life.

Next, provide discussion as to how an authoritative parent guides a child’s behavior differently in each of these three periods of life. In other words, describe examples of specific instances or interactions that show how the authoritative parent might behave, relative to the other three forms of parenting (authoritarian, permissive, and uninvolved) as the child ages.
