1. How does a Chinese leader lose the Mandate of Heaven? What are the consequences of this loss?

2. Compare the “Mandate of Heaven” with the Canon of Filial Piety. In what ways do the two documents offer similar views of leadership? In what ways do they offer differing views?

3. What insight into the nature of Chinese society do the two documents offer? How does this differ from modern American society?
