Bowie State University Star Wars Episode IV Scene Analysis
For this assignment, you will use the terms of scene analysis you practiced earlier this week to analyze and interpret one scene from the original 1977 Star Wars film (“A New Hope”). You can choose any scene that interests you or puzzles you or that you think is a key scene for understanding the story or a particular character. Your goal is to explain how the details in the scene help us understand the story and/or a character better
.Please watch Star Wars and take a look at the Wookiepedia entry below .https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Episode_IV_A_New_Hope
Format: This is an exercise rather than an essay (although this is the kind of analysis that could be part of a longer essay). Please follow this outline step-by-step.
1. Briefly summarize the scene (1-3 sentences) and identify where it is in the film (either by minutes or 1st quarter/2nd/3rd/4th). so please only answer as described 2-3 sentence .
2. List where the scene takes place (its setting) and the characters who appear on screen.
3. Create a two-column list. In Column 1, list the details you see and hear. There should be at least 20 details listed. In Column 2, add your interpretation of each detail – what does it mean? why did the writer/director/actor/composer/set designer/costume designer put it in?
4. What are the patterns you see in your lists? Repetitions/similarities and contrasts are very frequently used.
5. Finally, write 1-2 paragraphs explaining how the details create meaning and why the scene is meaningful or important.
