Gun Control in Texas Current Event Blog Writing

Blog Instructions

Students you will be required to post your YT, Podcast, or Blog web address here for students & I to be able to access.

MUST POST ALL THESE items here on BB, not just in your assignment. NO ATTACHMENTS. Make sure you read your syllabus for the minimum requirements. Here’s the requirements to post your items here (on BB in this post):

1) “NAME” put the subject/issue/current event you are discussing in your YT, podcast, or blog (i.e. Immigration Blog, or Gun Control Podcast).

2) In the body area post the website address at the very top….you MUST have it linked so that students can just click on it & go to your address. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR LINK, make sure I can easily access it & that the LINK is correct. If the link is NOT correct I cannot grade, it may be a 0 or points will be deducted.

3) ALL students MUST include a MLA formated list of sources/bibliography with 2 minimum sources (no Wikipedia).

4) Post two questions you want students to answer related to the YT, podcast, & blog. Number each question. Make sure the questions are well worded.

SEE SYLLABUS FOR THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS!!

FOCUS on TEXAS in your CE’s.

Make sure your link works.

Please make sure all of the above is in the post, not in the blog/YT video/podcast.

**NOTE: that if I CANNOT open your link when I grade your CE’s OR if you don’t have the proper link then I may NOT grade your work.

Requirements:

THIS IS ALSO IN YOUR SYLLABUS UNDER “CURRENT EVENTS”. This is a snippet of the requirements, Make sure to read the syllabus for all the requirements.

There are NO maximum word count or time for the Current Event assignment. There are, however, minimum requirements:

Podcasts need to be at least 4 minutes of talking with limited to no pausing. The minimum time has to be you discussing the TX Current Event. Role-playing, music and/or sounds DOES NOT COUNT towards the minimum 4 mins of talking required. For example: if you introduce your podcast “This is DJ Sonia….” & then you play music, that part of your podcast won’t count towards 4 mins. So if the timer shows with that intro & music you did exactly 4 minutes, then you will receive deductions. Role-playing, interviews, music, and/or sounds are required throughout the podcast (not just the beginning and/or ending)

You MUST use Spreaker, which does allow you to “pause” while you’re recording. I will NOT grade a podcast using any other platform!

YouTube videos need to be at least 4 minutes in length with limited to no pausing. This means the minimum time has to be you discussing the TX Current Event. The minimum time has to be you discussing the TX Current Event. Role-playing, music and/or sounds DOES NOT COUNT towards the minimum 4 mins of talking required. For example: if you introduce your YT video “This is Irene Flores reporting for Eyewitness News…” & then play music, that part of your YT video won’t count towards the 4 minutes of talking required. YT videos MUST present VISUALS throughout the video – i.e. graphs, maps, pictures incorporated into the video, or using poster boards, chalk board, etc. in the video.

Blogs need to have a word count of at least 700 words. Any wording for describing pictures, citations, bibliography, or graphs will NOT count towards the 700 word count. I expect this to be based on RESEARCH, NO opinion. Minimum of 4 visuals required. The visuals must be related to the TX Current Event you’re writing about.

MINIMUM OF TWO SOURCES REQUIRED IN YOUR BIBLIOGRAPHY.

NOTE: the above is just a bare-bones minimum & does NOT guarantee any grade. I will be using the grading rubric given in your syllabus, but most important is the quality & quantity of information you give. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE, don’t even go there!!! If you’re quoting in a podcast or video you MUST state QUOTE….then state your quote…END QUOTE.

In your podcast & YT video you are to put your information in YOUR WORDS, do not copy from an outside source. It should be evident in your presenting that you know the subject well – it’s obvious when you’re reading a script & this may lower your grade. Think of podcast & YT videos as you would if you’re presenting in front of a class.
