3.   Wallace’s model calls for sequential stages leading to revitalization. Some scholars have concluded that the process is not so linear, suggesting the preconditions are simultaneous crises at the micro (personal) level and the macro (sociocultural level). The catalyst is a “charismatic prophet” who delivers a new belief system that people in a state of personal and cultural distress will follow.
