AFEA The Methods and Goals of Social Work Discussion

Based on what you have learned about conservative, liberal, and independent political positions compare and contrast their views with the methods and goals of social work. You may have to use reputable sources other than your text to fully answer the question.

“Hello class,

Social policies affect society and human behavior, and their importance for social-work practice has long been understood by the social-work profession. Modern social welfare policies, which respond to basic human needs such as health care, housing food, and employment, have evolved since their introduction during the New Deal of the 1930s as responses to the Great Depression ( Herrick, J.).

A conservative approach is based off the idea of a belief in individual and family responsibility along with having the reference of a private sector.

“In the conservative view, the job of social work should be carried out under private auspices whenever possible. A minimum “safety net” of government services may be necessary to support the elderly and the “truly needy”  but beyond this, government in social welfare only furthers individual or family dependence” (Popple, P. R., & Leighninger, L. (2020).

Liberal perspectives finds ways in which the economy and social institution can contribute to a problem within the society versus focusing solely on the individual responsibility.

Conservative and liberal are opposite from one another and independent political positions usually find ways to being together the two.
