PSYCH 041 Los Angeles Pierce College Lifespan Psychology Self Analysis Essay
Self-Analysis from a Life Span Psychology Perspective
For your final paper, write a 5 paragraph essay about yourself, analyzing yourself through the lens of Life Span Psychology. Your paper should have an introductory paragraph, and then one paragraph each for the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial analyses, and then a concluding paragraph (5 paragraphs total). Your paper should have your own original title.
First engage in introspection and think deeply about yourself, then include all of the following information about yourself in your paper. You should have one paragraph for each question below:
- Introduction: What stage of life (adolescence, young adulthood, or middle adulthood) are you currently in? State what stage of life you are in now, and introduce your paper. For example, I’m currently in the middle adulthood stage of life. Feel free to include any ideas about yourself that you want to include. Include your thesis (the main point of your paper) in this paragraph too. You can think of the main point as the theme for your paper. Try to have a theme about yourself that is threaded throughout your paper which will make your paper cohesive.
- Describe yourself from a physical perspective. Think about where you are with your physical development and explain. Give at least 3 specific examples.
- Describe yourself from a cognitive perspective. Include a discussion of Piaget’s Cognitive Stages of Development. What stage (sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operations, formal operations) are you in according to Piaget’s theory? State what stage you are in and explain how Piaget’s theory applies to you. Also, add at least 2 other thoughts regarding your cognitive domain. Give at least one specific example.
- Describe yourself from a psychosocial perspective. Include a discussion of Erikson’s Psychosocial Stages of Development. What stage are you in, and what is the conflict/developmental task for this stage according to Erikson? For example, I’m in middle adutlhood, and the developmental task is generativity vs. stagation. How does Erikson’s theory apply to you? Explain and then also give at least 2 other thoughts regarding your psychosocial development. Give at least one specific example.
- Conclusion: You should use your conclusion to say something additional to what you said in the body of your paper. For example, you might want to reflect back on your life and compare your old self to who you are now, or maybe you want to project ahead to the future and set goals or prepare for what lies ahead. Maybe you want to write about lessons you have learned or your hopes and your dreams, as another example. It’s completely up to you. You have full creative freedom for this paragraph, but try to dig deep within yourself and express yourself.
