Your task is to find one research article that tests a causal hypothesis about self-compassion.

• This could either be a hypothesis in which self-compassion causes an effect to occur in some other variable (i.e., self-compassion is the IV and the other variable is the DV), or it could be a hypothesis in which some independent variable causes some effect to occur in levels of self-compassion (i.e., the other variable is the IV and self-compassion is the DV). Research articles will usually be the most relevant sources to look at to find studies that test causal hypotheses.
• You should be able to identify whether a given source tested a causal hypothesis by reading just the abstract, which is the summary of the article, which appears at the start of every article. In some journals the abstract is in a section that is explicitly titled: “Abstract.” In other journals, the abstract is not explicitly titled but it is set off from the rest of the text by indentation and smaller print, such as in the following screenshot from the article by Baumeister & Leary (1995). Note: In the screenshot there is a rectangle around the abstract to help identify it.
