Capella University Psychology Humility Pride Behavior Article Summary

Intelligence

Psychologists have created different theories in their efforts to describe intelligence. In addition, psychologists have created different tests to measure intelligence. There are two critical concepts used to assess how effective a tes is: reliability and validity. A tes that is not reliable or valid does not offer results that can be trusted.

Personality

Different schools of thought have differing views of how personality develops and how this development later influences behavioral issues. The three most common theories that have been woven throughout the course are:

  1. Psychodynamic, or Freudian.
  2. Behaviorist, based on learning principles we studied in Week 2.
  3. Humanistic.

All three views are quite different from one another. As you read the material, consider which one resonates with you the most and why.

Psychologists have developed tests that measure personality, such as the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), the California Psychological Inventory (CPI), the Rorschach, and the Thematic Apperception Tes (TAT). While no single personality measure can give a complete understanding of a person, they can at least tell us a great deal about specific aspects of personality.
