University of Nebraska Lincoln Ted Talk Analytical Review

Please see the attached pic to get an idea of how the essay should be

Stella Young was an Australian comedian, journalist, and disability rights activist. She died in 2014 at age 32. Here is a LINK to a very interesting list of 17 quotes by Young. Please take a few minutes to review it.

Then, watch Young’s 9-minute TED talk “I’m Not Your Inspiration, Thank You Very Much,” which explains the problems she sees with telling disabled people that they are inspiring. There is also a written transcript available under the video, if you find that helpful.

For this mini essay, please do these two main tasks:

1. Write a few paragraphs reacting to Young’s TED talk. Did anything she said specifically stick out to you? Was anything surprising? If anything from the link of quotes was particularly meaningful to you, feel free to mention that too.

Organize your reactions by focusing on one idea per paragraph.

Use quotes, paraphrases, and examples to elaborate on your reaction points.

Mention personal experiences or real-life examples when applicable.

2. Find an example of the type of “inspiring” photo, meme, or poster that Young describes in her video. This image should include a portrayal of disability in some manner. Copy and paste the photo into your essay. In at least one full paragraph, explain what you think Young would say about the photo. Share any of your own insights about the photo as well.

Your essay should be a minimum of 700 words. Please note that this essay will be treated a bit lighter than the previous two, since we don’t have time for a full drafting and peer review process.
