ENG 311 Central Washington University Week 9 Business Leadership Styles Discussion

This assignment include one Initial post and two responses posts.

Each year, Seattle Magazine recognizes prominent business leaders in the community. The recipients come from every corner of the business world—from finance executives to non-profit leaders. Browse through the 2019 Executive Excellence Winners (Links to an external site.) and find one or two business executives that you could imagine yourself trying to work for in the future.

Some questions to consider: Which business executive profile stands out most to you and why? Are you drawn to certain leadership qualities more than others (see Mautz (Links to an external site.) article)? If so, why? How can you incorporate such qualities into your own business leadership plan? How might you tailor your resume to apply for a position working directly with the business executive (perhaps as an intern)?

Please also respond to the two following posts:

Student A’s post: “Hello Class,

The business that stands out to me the most is Urban Renaissance Group. I think this would be an industry I would be interested in learning more. I think I was drawn to the type of work they do more than the company. I am more drawn to the smaller business that deal less with corporate rules. I would make my resume a little more tailored in adding in more details of my skills in the industry that relates to the job I am applying for.”

Student B’s post: “Hello,

Carol K. Nelson is a business executive at KeyBank, what stood out to me was her initiation and pursuit of collaboration with diverse groups, including military’s veterans, young professionals, and African-Americans. Carol is helping KeyBank to develop and adapt to a diverse customer market, KeyBank is staring to engage in communities and be involved in philanthropic activities. She is demonstrating values of commitment and giving back, she is pushing to get involved with diverse groups which involves engaging in philanthropic activities, this also helps KeyBank to gain insights on there market.

Robert Moser is the president and CEO of Laird Norton Wealth Management, his focus is on the longevity of the business, he states that innovation and reinvention are two key factors for longevity. Robert is showing commitment values with his investment on the long-term plan of the organization, his focus on innovation allows the business to improve and adapt to changing environments. He also shows values of giving back, he demonstrates this by getting involved in philanthropic and charitable organizations.

The leadership qualities I am drawn to is commitment and communication. With commitment qualities, leaders need to know their objective and how they plan to achieve them, knowing this also helps give employee’s direction on the company’s vision and goals. Communication skills is imperative for all leaders, this includes being able to articulate and give clear direction and consider employees inputs. If applying to work for these executives, tailor your resume to show your qualities are aligned with the one’s of the business executives. For both business executives in this case, in your resume show case that you are dedicated and are able to work in team settings, voluntary work would also service you since both executive show values of giving back.”
