For this discussion, I want to focus our energy on how we might communicate some of what we learned to the various parties with whom we interact. Sometimes a little knowledge might be a burden!

When framing your response I would like you to consider a couple of different scenarios:

1) We are increasingly seeing medications in use among the people we will see for counseling. Looking at each of the brief scenarios below, how might you communicate important information to your client:

a) Your client tells you the doctor has diagnosed them with depression and started them on an SSRI antidepressant. The client tells you they are concerned because it has been three days and they have had no significant improvement.

b) Your client is being treated for a substance use disorder and was prescribed benzodiazepines to help with withdrawal symptoms. What information does the client need to know?

2) Your client has signed a consent for you to exchange information with their primary care physician (PCP) and Psychiatrist, what information would you share and how would you share it in the following circumstances:

a) Your client was diagnosed with depression and prescribed an SNRI Anti-depressant. The client comes to your office speaking rapidly and unable to sit still. The client informs you that they have not slept for 4 days.

b) A client diagnosed with ADHD admits in session that they are not taking the Ritalin there physician is prescribing, but are selling it for extra spending money
