University of California San Diego Stephen Kings Novel IT Questions

These questions are based on the novel IT by Stephen King, if you need access the novel and it costs extra please let me know and I will add to tip. I would like to see at least one well developed paragraph for each question. Preferably however long it takes to completely answer each question thoroughly.

1. It is a huge book. Its size in part reflects King’s intention to develop at length many individual stories that then fit into the larger plot of the novel. Consider the stories about how the six “survivors” receive and react to the telephone call from Mike. This section is over 100 pages in length (pp. 40-144). Why might King have committed so much space to this material? What is different about It in comparison to some of the other King novels we have read (for example, Carrie, The Shining, The Mist).

2. What is the function of “Derry: The First Interlude” (pp. 145-61)? Why might King have written this section and what does it contribute to the novel?
