University of North Carolina Split Brain Syndrome Discussion

find three relevant sources of information, for instance, reputable websites or scholarly research journal articles, that expand upon this topic. The Web papers should be brief—three pages each—and include:

  • a brief introduction, including any relevant information from the text, lesson notes, and discussion forums
    • Discussion forum information to add in essay as examples
      • Answer the following questions about split-brain patients: What if the word flashed to the right hemisphere represented an action, like scratch, walk, or shake? How would the patient respond?
        • If the message is only going to the right hemisphere then they could not carry out the action because the left side of the brain is responsible for the movements of the body.
      • What would happen if two different words were flashed to the two hemispheres? For example, clap on the left, and laugh on the right. How would the split-brain patient respond?
        • They would be able to do both movements because the physical movement of clapping is on the left hemisphere and the laughing is on the right so the movements would be made
      • What if the patient, blindfolded, was asked to identify by touch an object, like a key. Which hand would the patient use? Why?
        • They would use their right hand because the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body according to the textbook
  • a brief conclusion or statement that reflects your personal interpretation or analysis of what you have learned.
