Complete your “Cultural Analysis Essay”.

The objective of the previous steps is to give you firsthand insights into the culture that you will be analyzing in the essay.

The structure of the essay is presented in Appendix B. The essay should have two partsas follows.

In the first part, you need to analyze the foreign culture using Hofstede’s cultural dimensions model as well as another cultural analysis model of your choice from the models that you will encounter during the semester (see particularly chapter 2).In addition, you need to compare the target culture to your own culture using the same models and reflect on the cultural distance between both cultures.Your analysis should build both on:

-External sources and references(i.e., from outside the course) about the target culture. This will require you to carry out some research and you should include your referencesat the end of the final essay (see Appendix B).

-Your own observations about the target culture. Specifically, the quality of your final essay, and hence your grade, will depend on how richly you can support and illustrate your analysis with evidence from your own observations and interactions with the target culture.

In the second part of your essay, you need to reflect on your experience and the key learning points for you from this assignment.Specifically, you need to discuss the following points:

-Which stereotypesthat you held about the target culture at the beginning of the course have changed, and how?

-Based on your analysis of the foreign culture and cultural distance, what are the main difficulties that you think you could encounter if you were to spend a semester or more as an expatriate in the target country?What are the best ways to address those difficulties and increase your chances of enjoying a smooth intercultural experience?(NB: the quality of your analysis will also depend on how much it builds on the course concepts).

-What did this assignment add to you? How could it help you prepare for coming intercultural interactions, whether with this culture or another one?
