1. This clip to me conveys that America is honestly concerned that there is a chance that America could face the destruction of a atomic bomb. Since the dropping of two atomic bombs in Japan from the attack of Pearl Harbor, other countries such as the Soviet Union have constructed atomic bombs much more powerful. America during the time was taking the information that they knew and formulated a way to raise awareness for it. The government at the time targeted the younger generations and their parents so that in the event of an atomic blast there would be a chance that they would be able to survive and continue building America.

2. I believe the film Duck and Cover would be propaganda. I believe that the film was a good type of propaganda, it showed kids the ways to prepare and survive the initial blast of an atomic bomb with multiple persuasive techniques and the use of cartoons that would better keep their attention. I also believe it was propaganda because it taught kids that surviving an atomic blast was as easy as being prepared for it and using the Duck and Cover technique at the sight of a bright flash. In reality the chances of surviving an atomic blast even while using this technique are slim to none, it gave the children and the parents a form of relief and kept people from panicking knowing that the US could potentially be a target for an atomic bomb attack.

1. After watching the video from the Atomic Cafe, Duck and Cover, it seemed that these videos were meant to target younger audiences, such as students. You can tell that they are trying to teach these young children what to do when an atomic bomb goes off, which they then explain that to keep themselves safe they are to duck and cover. I feel that they are trying to keep the minds of these young children safe by coming up with these educational videos while adding a fun aspect to them so that these children remain calm and so that they do not fear the atomic bomb. They want these student to stay safe and alert instead of being scared of these atomic bombs which is why they made a lot of these videos during the Cold War.

2. I do think that videos like the Duck and Cover ones and many others during this time are examples of propaganda because of the fact that they are implying that ducking and covering will keep you safe in these hectic situations when in reality that is not the case. They came out with these videos targeted at children as a way to keep them calm and not worry them which is why they are telling the lie that if everyone ducks and covers that they will be safe from the atomic bomb. They wanted these young and fragile minds to stay focused on learning and not be worried about the war and what would happen to them if the atomic bomb were to actually be used against them which is why they used these types of propaganda videos frequently.

Synopsis:

On November 15, six students that attend Central High School in Grand Junction, Colorado happened to be at a local park ‘Nome Park’ when a shooting took place. These 6 teenagers ranged in ages from 14 to 18, one of them was quickly rushed to the ER for emergency surgery, meanwhile, the others were transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Colorado, none of them had ‘life-threatening’ injuries and have returned home to be with their families. Police are unaware of who was to blame for the shooting, however, Vanessa Wilson one of the police officers at the scene has asked that anyone who has seen or heard anything about the incident and potentially has any kind of lead as to who the suspects might be to contact them.

Opinion:

This incident is truly disheartening especially given how young these children are, thankfully they all managed to come out of this with no life-threatening injuries. This goes to show just how important it is to ensure gun safety is enforced and heavy background checks are given to anyone trying to obtain a firearm. I hope they can find out who was responsible for this tragedy to stop this from happening to anyone else.
