SNHU In Vivo Observation Discussion

Complete your In-Vivo Observation assignment.

Typically this assignment is done in a social setting, but in light of COVID-19 I have made adjustments that will still work on your observational skills. You will find a TV show and watch the show for 15 minutes. It should be a show you are not familiar with and it would be ideal if it is some type of drama (documentary will not work). Some examples (Private Practice, grey’s anatomy, modern family, Ozark, American housewife, etc..) Really, it can be anything as long as there is interaction. Then you will document (see below) what you observed.

For an extra challenge you can watch the first 15 minutes with no volume (no sound). Then make your observations. You can either finish the show or re watch the 15 minutes. You are looking to determine how accurate you were with your observations. To do this you’d need to either re watch the 15 minutes or complete the program and see if you were right.

In your discussion post you will:

1. Write the name of the show.

2. How many people you observed ( males, females, kids)

3. What you believe the purpose of their interaction was.(i.e. what is happening in their interaction, are they arguing, sad, angry, concerned about something etc…)

5. Did the setting influence their behaviors in any way. (i.e. if they are in a library did that influence how they behaved)

If you took the challenge and watched the show with no sound ( paying close attention to body language and facial expressions), you will include:

6. How accurate were your observations.

* Read your class colleagues’ presentations.

* Provide feedback to at least 2 of your class colleagues. (listed below)

Student one:

  1. Write the name of movie.- I decided to have a kiddish night tonight and watch Moana!

2. How many people you observed ( males, females, kids)- While in the first opening credits I observed Moana’a entire village along with my close relatives like her Mom, Dad & Grandma.

3. What you believe the purpose of their interaction was.(i.e. what is happening in their interaction, are they arguing, sad, angry, concerned about something etc…) – In the 15 minutes I watched of the movie it is her village going from being happy and joyful to said and angry due to the fact their food supply in the ocean is scarce and they can’t find and fish to eat

5. Did the setting influence their behaviors in any way. (i.e. if they are in a library did that influence how they behaved)- I believe their setting did influence this behave because it’s taking place in an island with no groceries and their main source of food is from the ocean. No food= Starvation!

If you took the challenge and watched the show with no sound ( paying close attention to body language and facial expressions), you will include: – Even though I watched a cartoon movie they still did a really good job and I was able to understand Moana having a passionate conversation with her father due to seeing her body movements and exaggeration!

6. How accurate were your observations. – My observations were very accurate I’d like to thank the people over at Disney for that one because they made cartoons have actual emotions and a good job depicting situations and if I was to have someone watch this movie on silent and ask them what was going on they’d whole heartedly understand.

Student two:Just because it is October and I enjoy watching horror movies during Halloween month. I watched the show The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. I observed 2 children, a boy, and a girl who are siblings. It showed their parents as well. As the show played on, there were a few other people which consists of males and females. These people seem to be recovering addicts. The purpose of the interaction of this show was pertaining to be worrisome and a concerning state. At the beginning of the show, a group of people looks like they are sharing a story. They seem stressed and bothered. The setting did influence their behaviors because it was in a room, similar to counseling. Everyone was sitting on chairs in a circle and just focusing on that individual who is talking. Then there was another part of the show that look like they were acknowledging the progress of an accomplishment of some sort. It was the little boy who grew up to be involved in drug use and is seeking help through rehab towards being sober. The show transition from the past to the present because it is discussing what happened in their life at a younger age. When the show took us back in the past, the setting was based in a big mysterious-looking house. I did watch the show without audio and the younger kids in one part of the show, just by watching their body language and facial expression at one point they were scared. They heard an unknown voice while playing together and the little boy saw an old lady’s face on some sort of instrument in an upstairs bedroom. I feel my observations were accurate because even without the sound I could figure out what the people in the show are experiencing. During the setting of the rehab center, I could conclude right away what those people were there for. I have never seen this show before but definitely will continue on with the series.
