Discussion Option 1:

Applying Aristotle’s rhetorical triangle explain how you believe each of the elements, Ethos, Pathos, and Logos are used in this article and how much of the balance each of them holds.

Logos appeals to reason. Logos can also be thought of as the text of the argument, as well as how well a writer has argued his/her point.

Ethos appeals to the writer’s character. Ethos can also be thought of as the role of the writer in the argument, and how credible his/her argument is.

Pathos appeals to the emotions and the sympathetic imagination, as well as to beliefs and values. Pathos can also be thought of as the role of the audience in the argument.

How do the authors use each of these elements and how effective are they in using each of these techniques either as in reference to the Celebrity Medicine Syndrome or within the text of the article itself.

Discussion Option 2:

Discuss how the Celebrity Medicine Syndrome has affected the views of people in 2013 when this article was written through today in 2021. What changes, if any, have taken place within this phenomenon? Consider if this phenomenon is exclusive to medicine or if it may also extend into other areas of life and public attention such as business, politics, civic responsibility, climate change, and other areas where celebrities may give their opinion even if they have no experience or education in the field. Do social media influencers have the same influence on their followers as these celebrities have, and if so to what extent?

Do you believe that that this phenomenon is good or bad for our society and what, if anything, should be done about it?
