For this last discussion board, you will
use the readings by Fleuriet, Walley, and Nuñez to support your
responses. You may also cite information from Dr. Fleuriet’s class
presentation. Your posting must demonstrate your comprehension of the
reading materials. Short, inadequately developed posts and/or posts that
are vague without any meaningful reference to the readings will be
penalized. Your post should be thoughtful and intelligent. You may label

1) In the first section, provide an
overview of the field-based research projects done by each of the three
anthropologists. What is the focus of each project–what are they trying
to show or argue with their research–and what research methods did
they use?

2) All three anthropologists—Fleuriet,
Walley and Nuñez–conducted research in or near their home communities
in the U.S. Based on these materials, what are two research benefits of
being an “insider,” of conducting anthropological research “at home” (or
close to it)? What are two research drawbacks of being an insider?
Explain fully your response.

3) Anthropologists are often interested
in understanding and shedding light on ways of living and locations that
are ignored, “invisible,” or stigmatized by the wider society. What
did you learn about people’s lives in the three regions where they
conducted research? How did the research of these three anthropologists
help to broaden your view of these places and the people living there?
You response should include all three locations.
