Columbia College Scale for Measuring Intelligence Questions

For this assignment, read “The Binet-Simon Scale for Measuring Intelligence” and answer the following questions in a text entry bo. Direct quotes may not be used; use your own words for credit.

When describing previous mental tests, Terman mentions that one of the reasons why they were fruitless was that they “failed to utilize non-selected subjects.”  What does this mean?

Binet’s original intelligence test was not appropriately calibrated with respect to age and difficulty.  How would that affect the results of the test for a young child?  An older child?

Terman lists six potential factors that can affect intelligence.  Number 2 is age.  Summarize each of the other five in 1-2 words each.

Looking at your list above, provide another possible factor and explain how it could potentially affect intelligence.

  1. For which two populations of children does Terman think intelligence tests will be particularly useful?
  2. Near the end of the article, Terman takes a jab at structuralism. How does his perception of a structuralist’s study of Napoleon parallel James’ house analogy?
