Southeastern University Book of Ecclesiastes Authorship Essay
- Students will choose a book of the Old Testament and submit a critical introduction for the Old Testament book of their choice. The book I chose was Eclesiastes
- The sources of this information should come from at least three other Introduction to the Old Testament books listed in the Selected Bibliography at the end of the syllabus. (See attachment)
- Do not copy word for word from the resources. Paraphrase the information (i.e., write the information in your own words) and cite the resources using Turabian style format. If you do not know how to cite using Turabian, there are several free online resources that will help you.
- The Critical Introduction must be 4-5 pages in length (double spaced and typed in a 12-point fount of your choice).
- The Critical Introduction should include the headings provided below and should contain well-developed paragraphs.
- The Critical Introduction should include the following information with a description for each heading:
- Title of the Book
- Authorship. There are debates concerning the authorship of certain books of the Bible. If it applies, students should reference the major debates.
- Date of Composition
- Major events of the book. This section should note the ancient context. For example, the book of Ezekiel was written to the exiles. Students should include a brief account of the historical events, political situation, etc., that led to the Babylonian invasion.
- Broad outline/structure of the book
- Purpose and message of the book
- Theme(s) of the book
- Any other important information for understanding the book.
