Discussion Question: Many state legislatures are in charge of the redistricting process which occurs every ten years after the Census is conducted. Therefore, the majority party in the state legislature will have a significant advantage to gerrymander districts in their political party’s favor. While Biden won the presidency in 2020, his presidential coattails did not extend to state legislatures. Why do you think this anomaly occurred? How do you see the redistricting process shape up in both state legislative districts (House and Senate) as well as U.S. House districts? New districts are currently being redrawn in all states and will take effect in the 2022 election.
