Instructions for this Assignment

Using Microsoft Word, write a reflection paper. You will need to write a formal assessment of the reading, but you will also add your own personal reaction and impressions to the report.

The general purpose of this assignment is to elicit your informed opinions about ideas presented in the text and to consider how they affect your interpretation. Be sure to discuss and analyze the key concepts from the chapter in Module 8. Include in your discussion a clear linkage between the concepts and at least the following learning objective: understand the dynamics of policymaking and the opportunities that the policy process
presents for citizens to participate in decision making.

You will need to:

Assess the text:
1. What is the main point? How is it developed? Identify the purpose and impact of the text.
2. What ideas stood out to me? Why?

Develop your ideas:
1. What do I know about this topic? Where does my existing knowledge come from? What are the observations or experiences that shape my understanding?
2. Do I agree or disagree with this argument? Why?

Make connections:
1. How does this text reinforce my existing ideas or assumptions? How does this text challenge my existing ideas or assumptions?
2. How does this text help me to better understand this topic or explore this field of study/discipline?

The steps for completing a reflection paper are:

  • Observe or read the piece for an initial understanding
  • Mark interesting pages with a sticky flag
  • Re-read the marked pieces and stop to reflect often
  • Record your thoughts and impressions in notes
  • Develop a thesis
  • Write an outline
  • Construct your paper

  • Your paper should be a minimum of three double-spaced pages in length (there are no maximum lengths for papers), in Arial or Times New Roman, 12 point font size.
