CASE STUDY

Mr. B. is a 56-year-old male with schizophrenia. The condition was first identified when he was 17. Since that time, he has had a number of relapses. For the last 10 years, however, he has been able to manage the manifestations well and has not experienced any recent relapses. Mr. B. has been successfully employed as a certified nursing assistant in a nursing home for the last 5 years and has recently decided that he would like to go to a community college and work on an associate degree in nursing. Mr. B. has used medications as well as a number of other psychosocial interventions to manage his condition. He has become increasingly concerned, however, about the potential long-term effects of the medications and is considering discontinuing them.
