University of North Carolina Promoting Strong and Healthy Family Relationship Essay

Full credit will be awarded if all prompts and questions are responded to in full, page requirements are met, and writing quality is consistent with standards outlined in other course rubrics. While length of each option differs, all assignments should be written in 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced, with 1 inch margins. Do not repeat/paste the response questions into your document.

For this extra credit option, you will choose any topic relating to family or family policy you are curious about, find controversial, or want to understand at a deeper level. You will then choose a book you believe will augment your understanding of the topic you selected. You must choose a book you have not read yet.

You can choose either a fiction or non-fiction book if you can explain how reading the book can augment your understanding of the topic you chose. You will then write a 3-page, double-spaced (12 pt. TNR) review of the book and address the following:

  1. Introduce your topic and explain why you chose it.
  2. Give a brief overview of the topic you chose (i.e. what is the topic? How is it defined? How is itsituated culturally and historically?)
  3. Introduce the book you chose (summarize the plot) and explain why you chose it.
  4. Describe how you hoped to broaden your understanding of this topic through reading the book(what were the biggest take-a-ways?)
  5. Describe how the book influenced your understanding of this topic.
  6. Address any questions that remain for you after reading the book and discuss whether or not you would recommend others to read the book.
