Assignment: Create a concept map visually depicting the main ideas in 3 Coltrane chapters we read in weeks 1-7.  You are required to identify umbrella concepts (main themes) and sub concepts (facts that illustrate central concepts) in every chapter and then connect those ideas across the chapters. You will demonstrate how the sub concepts relate to the umbrella concept and to each other.  Your concept maps will be graded on how well they identify umbrella concepts and sub concepts.

Assignment Steps:

• Pick 3 chapters from the book you know well
• Ask yourself, which is an umbrella concept and which is a specific subconcept? Generate a list of  umbrella concepts and subconcepts in 3 chapters of  Unit One (Brain Dump). See rubric for recommended number of concepts per chapter. Each chapter will have an umbrella concept.
