Cuyamaca College Life Goals Display Images Vision Board Discussion

My Vision Board

A vision board is a tool used to help clarify and maintain focus on your life goals. A vision board is any sort of board on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do, or have in your life. In addition to images, vision boards can include words, phrases, or sentences that affirm your intentions. It’s big, bright, and colorful. More importantly, it’s a reminder to stay focused on what you want to accomplish, what really matters to you, and what is most important in your life. Making a vision board helps you to use your creative side to identify your goals, give it clarity, reinforce your daily affirmations, and keep you on course to your life goals and dreams.

Assignment:

  1. Create a vision board for your life goals.
  2. Before you start creating, take time for self-care in order to nurture your mindset. Rushing through this process defeats the purpose. Just this once, set aside a little time to forget about all you have to do and allow yourself to be mindful and in the moment. You could even put on some music that you find pleasant and soothing, something that filters out distractions, quiets your mind, and makes you feel peaceful.
  3. Now create your vision board. Choose the pictures that resonate with you and lay them out on your board. You may also want to add some affirmations. These can be inspirational quotes, positive/inspiring statements; they can even be your personal affirmations, or your life rules that we created in class. Arrange them in a way that is appealing to you. Once you’re happy with the looks of it, stick the items to your board.
    • Supplies you may need:
      • Poster board to attach your materials
      • images, pictures and/or photos from magazines, printed from Internet, stickers
      • letters and words for your affirmations from magazines, printed from Internet, stickers, handwritten on paper, sticky notes…
      • scissors for cutting out materials for your Vision Board
      • writing tools for writing in details; pens, pencils, crayons, paint brush
      • adhesive like glue, glue stick, tape, photo tabs (double sided tape)
      • If you don’t have any old magazines there are lots of places you can ask for free ones: your friends and family or the local library. The more you can find the better because you want to give yourself as many choices as possible. It’s also great to include lots of magazines you don’t usually read so you can keep your mind open and broaden your horizons.
  4. Record yourself presenting your vision board to the class and post it to the Discussion. Be sure to address the following in your presentation:
    • What are your life goals as shown on your vision board.
    • Explain the images, words, affirmations etc., on your vision board and discuss why you selected them
    • Discuss whether or not this project helped you to clarify your goals -OR- what you have learned from doing this vision board project.
  5. Hang your vision board in a place that you will see everyday as a daily reminder to stay on course.
